Animal Behavior Society
The Animal Behavior Society is a non-profit scientific society, founded to encourage and promote the study of animal behavior. ABS members are from all over the world, but primarily from North, Central, and South America. Membership is open to those interested in the study of animal behavior.
Applied Animal Behavior Certification Program
The field of Applied Animal Behavior specializes in the behaviour of companion animals in relation to behavioural problems and training, the behaviour of farm, zoo and laboratory animals (i.e animal management and welfare) and studies of the behaviour of wild animals when these studies are relevant from an applied perspective, (i.e. wildlife management, pest management or nature conservation) as well as methodological studies.
American Psychological Association
Research with Animals in Psychology - "Psychologists undertake research with animals '...with a clear scientific purpose.' ...There should be a reasonable expectation that the research will a) increase knowledge of the processes underlying the evolution, development, maintenance, alteration, control, or biological significance of behavior, b) increase understanding of the species under study, or c) provide results that benefit the health or welfare of humans or other animals." The Animal Behavior Center is a division of ASPCA National Programs, located in Urbana, IL. We offer a variety of educational services, including graduate and post-graduate programs for aspiring companion animal behaviorists; continuing education for animal trainers, veterinarians and other professionals; pet behavior research for the scientific community, and sound, practical advice for local area pet owners.
