Faculty Updates

  • Dr. Yackel, Dr. Nelson, Dr. Reinkoester, and Dr. Beier attended the JMM this year and gave talks, organized sessions and were panel members.
  • We have two new faculty this year! Please welcome Dr. Ellis and Dr. Pullen to the department.
  • Dr. Nelson and Dr. Denny published a paper in PRIMUS on mathematics placement for freshmen.
  • Dr. Symington gave a short course at the Women and Math program at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ.
  • Dr. Yackel officially finished and published a new book! It is called "Crafting by Concepts" and Dr. Yackel is one of the editors.

Student Research

  • McCabe Olsen and James Lanterman are both presenting their work at the JMM this year! Fantastic!
  • James Lanterman and McCabe Olsen both presented their work at Kennesaw State's conference in October! Congratulations to you both!
  • Several students completed REUs this summer including: Melanie King and McCabe Olsen. Chris Kirkland (2012) completed an REG.

Spring 2013

Spring 2013 Flyer

  • Tremendous Tuesdays: 1/15, 1/29, 2/12, 2/26, 3/19, 4/2, 4/16 (7:00 - 8:30 pm, 2nd floor Ware Hall). Tremendous Tuesdays are open to all math students!
  • Conversations in Math: Math chats will be on 1/31 and 3/7 (3:00 in Ware 217). All students are welcome to attend, and majors are strongly encouraged to present.
  • MUURMaC is this Spring on February 9th! Learn more about this and register here.
  • The Math Modeling contest is scheduled for 1/31 - 2/1. Please contact Dr. Denny if you are interested in participating.
